PARIS TO VERSAILLES, TO HOLLAND, TO AMSTERDAM, TO BELGIUM, TO BRUSSELS, TO BARCELONA, TO GENOVA (ITALY), TO CAMOLGLI, TO PORTOFINO, TO ROME AND BACK TO PARIS!

The Palace At Versailles

Our trip to Versailles, where Marie Antoinette and Louie XVI lived was overwhelming to say the least! The grounds just went on and on and on, with beautiful things around every corner. We watched the Sophia Copola movie Marie Antoinette before I went to get in the mood. But nothing could prepare us for how massive the palace and the gardens actually were!

This is the main palace entrance courtyard.
The palace chapel where the king and queen did their daily prayers
Really tired of walking...
Marie Antoinette and her children... notice the empty bassinet. There used to be another child in there, but when it died as a baby they redid the painting to remove it.
A royal bed.  The Kings bed.
Much of the furniture is gone, having been looted during the french revolution, and also during WWII. However, these footstools in the hall of mirrors were donated back by the Rockefellers in the 1930's.

In the Hall of Mirrors
This is the table around which the king made many of his decisions, including the one to join the Americans in the American/French Revolution.
This was Marie Antoinette's bed in the main palace.
A view of the grounds.
The meticulously shaped gardens have been groomed like this since the 1700's!
Now you can see how vast the grounds are from the palace steps.

Beautiful statues are all around.
Look at how long the grounds go!

Here is Tod and Andi... what a trooper at 30 weeks!

Walking through the gardens and finding marble fragments from all the statue carvings.
